Don’t miss your favorite fight Ever.. Giovanni De Carolis focuses on Tyron Zeuge
Rugged
Italian super middleweight Giovanni De Carolis returns to Germany for
his third consecutive fight, this time against highly touted Tyron
Zeuge.
De Carolis (24-6, 12 knockouts) is well-versed in
upsetting the local favorite. In his most recent fight, he stopped
Vincent Feigenbutz in the 11th round of their rematch, having in many
fans’ eyes, been robbed against the young puncher last October.
“Yes,
it will be my third consecutive fight in Germany and the fourth in
general, as I fought Arthur Abraham in Oldenburg in 2013,” De Carolis
told RingTV.com through Italian boxing correspondent Marco Bratusch.
“Fighting in Germany is a pleasure. They have great fighters, big arenas
and they definitely know how to put on a show. Germans love to watch
boxing; there is a pleasant support for a boxer. Those are things which,
right now, unfortunately lack in Italy.
“I’m not worried about
the crowd that will fill the Max Schmeling Halle (in Berlin), also
because I know that, after my last two fights against Feigenbutz, I’ve
earned some German support. That said, of course Zeuge will be the fans
favorite as he will fight in his backyard. I just hope judges and the
referee will do their job without any involvement but they are all
well-known professionals, so I can’t doubt that.”
The 31-year-old is keen to test himself against Zeuge and see what the young German is made of.
“It
could be a very good clash of styles between me and Zeuge,” he said.
“My experience and will against his polished boxing style, his youth and
freshness. This is a voluntary defense of my WBA super middleweight
title (unrecognized by THE RING, as Felix Sturm holds what’s known as
the WBA’s “super” title) and Sauerland Event wants me to fight their
young prospect at 168-pounds. OK, that’s fine for me. I know there will
be a lot of pressure on him because, winning the fight, he would become
the youngest German boxer to win a world title. I do not have anything
against him. He’s a very clever and respectful guy but I’ll do my best
to change their ‘written story’ about the outcome.”
De Carolis
continued,“I think Zeuge’s a good young talent. He has good boxing
skills, fast hands. On the other hand, I consider he has not faced big
opponents so far. Perhaps some of his opponents were a bit tailor-made
for his style, although some of them were pretty good fighters.
“Right
now I can’t say if he’s ready to face me. I deserved my chances, paying
one’s dues during all my boxing career. I won’t let him box at his
pace, to be relaxed. I’ll need to stress him, putting pressure and force
him to fight. I can’t wait for July 16; it’s the biggest challenge of
my career and I’ll do my best to retain my belt.”
The Rome-born
fighter refused to look past Zeuge (18-0, 10 KOs) at a potential rematch
with Abraham, who also appears on the same card.
“I do not want
to speak over my future as I’m fully focused on fighting Zeuge on July
16,” De Carolis explained. “My goal is to retain my belt and, to do it,
I’ll have to perform at my very best. Of course Abraham’s a boxing star
and a great opponent and such fights are the highest achievements for a
prizefighter, as I am, but hopefully we’ll think on it later, at the
right time.”
For now, De Carolis is firmly – and solely – focused on Zeuge.
